About the Baby Without Allergies app

“It helps me make sense of what’s going on.”

My name is Jiřina and I’m a mum of two. Baby Without Allergies (in Czech “Bejby bez alergií”) grew out of my own experience of caring for a child with eczema and food allergies.

How the app came about

When my daughter started getting eczema, I spent a long time looking for a way to find out what was causing it and how I could help her. I tried different things, read information from many sources and gradually began tracking how her skin changed in connection with food, illness, the environment and other circumstances.

Over time, reactions to various foods were added to the eczema. So I started removing some foods and watching what happened. Some things got better, others didn’t change at all. Gradually I realized that removing foods on its own didn’t tell me what my child actually couldn’t tolerate. I needed to know not only what not to give her, but also what to bring back and how to do it safely.

While looking for that path, I came across the principle of the elimination–challenge diet. I began to understand that the important part isn’t only elimination, but also the controlled reintroduction of foods that follows and watching for reactions.

Suddenly the whole process started to make more sense.

But there was still a huge amount to keep track of. What my child had eaten, when we removed a food, when we tried it again, what the reaction was, what the eczema looked like, what was happening with digestion, sleep or stool. On top of that, recipes, food lists, allergen information and notes from each day.

And that’s exactly where the idea for the app came from.

I wanted to have all this information in one place and, at the same time, a guide through each step close at hand. So I started thinking about how to turn the whole process into an app that parents could genuinely use in everyday life.

Today, parents can use it to track foods and their allergens, log their child’s symptoms, follow how eczema, digestion, sleep and other symptoms develop, work through an elimination diet and gradually test foods. It also includes recipes, articles and other information that help parents find their way through it all.

I built the app step by step with people who helped me with different parts of its development. But from the very beginning, what I had in mind most was my own experience as a mum.

I know what it’s like to look for answers to every new problem. What it’s like to have a child at home who is bothered by something while not being sure what exactly is causing it. How easy it is to get lost in all the information, and how hard it is to keep track of everything while caring for a little one.

That’s why I wanted to create a place where important information, records and each of the steps could all be together.

Why I created the app

I don’t want to tell parents what to do. Every child is different, and with food allergies and eczema you need to proceed individually, based on your own child’s situation.

I wanted to create a tool that helps parents get their bearings – what they have already tried, what they are tracking right now and where they can go next.

And also a tool that helps build an overview you can take to your pediatrician or allergist. When you have been watching your child’s reactions for weeks or months, it’s hard to remember exactly when something started, what your child ate and what else was going on at the time.

Records help you see those connections more clearly.

Baby Without Allergies today

The app has been changing step by step since the beginning. I keep adding new features, recipes and information and try to build it around what really helps parents in everyday life.

That’s why this website is gradually growing alongside the app. I want to explain each topic in more detail here and create a place parents can come back to outside the app as well. You’ll find a guide to food allergies, eczema, the elimination diet, testing and reintroducing allergens, as well as recipes and practical articles.

Why “Bejby bez alergií”?

The name – “Baby Without Allergies” – says what I would wish for at the end of the whole journey: a child without allergies. The ideal outcome, when a child goes through elimination, testing and allergen training and the allergies are gradually overcome.

When I was going through all of this myself, I wished I had something like this at hand. Something that would help me bring a little more order into the whole situation.

And that’s exactly what I’m still trying to do today.
